Venous Lake

Venous lakes are small, soft spots that appear dark blue or purple, most commonly on the lips, face, ears, or neck. They are made up of tiny, dilated veins just beneath the surface of the skin.

They are completely harmless and typically painless, though their appearance can stand out against the surrounding skin. While the exact cause isn’t always clear, sun exposure over time is believed to play a role in their development.

Although venous lakes do not pose any health concerns, they can occasionally bleed if irritated or injured. Many clients choose to treat them to reduce the appearance and/or the risk of bleeding.
