Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy involves injection of a sclerosant solution or foam into the spider, reticular, or varicose vein. This injection will cause the blood in the vessel to clot. After sclerotherapy the vein is generally reduced in size or completely disappears over a 6-month period. You may require multiple sessions to treat spider, reticular veins or varicose veins. Sclerotherapy treatments are NOT covered by OHIP.

We may also combine sclerotherapy with dermal laser (see our Excel V+ Laser page for more information about laser treatment options) treatment for optimal results. Please contact us to arrange a consultation to determine the best treatment options for your veins.

Outcome Expectations

Treating your veins can be a multi-step process. Sclerotherapy may need to be repeated multiple times to address your concerns. Other procedures may be recommended if sclerotherapy is ineffective depending on the size and extent of visible veins. This may include laser treatment, echo-sclerotherapy, or vein ablation.
